Volunteering is the ultimate exercise in democracy. You vote in elections once a year, but when you volunteer, you vote every day about the kind of community you want to live in.
Volunteering is great way to feel part of a community, make new friends, improve self-esteem, learn new skills and give people purpose to their lives. It’s a powerful way to help others and help yourself too.
We have a range of volunteering opportunities at Mind in West Essex; please take a look below.
If you want to talk to someone about the roles get in touch with our Volunteer Administrator: [email protected]
The smallest act of kindness is worth more than the grandest intention.
Befriending – Befriending makes a real difference to people who find themselves struggling with loneliness and isolation. A befriender offers a friendly face and someone to chat to on a regular basis.
Fundraising and Events – Getting involved with fundraising or events is great fun. This could be from helping out at a local Carnival or Fair, coming up with your own ideas to raise money and awareness or even running a marathon!
Trustee – Our trustees have responsibility for running our charity. They are all people from our community who use their skills and experience to make our organisation a continuing success.
Administration – Help out in one of our friendly offices in Harlow or Dunmow.
Communications Activities/ Social Media – Help promote the many different activities going on. This could be using our website, Facebook and other social media.
Anything else – Do you have any ideas that would make volunteering with us appeal to you? Please tell us if there is something you would really like to try.
How much time will I have to commit to?
You can give as much or as little time as you are able. From one off events to regular weekly groups or befriending.
Is there an age limit for volunteers?
From 16 upwards.
Does volunteering affect any benefits I receive
Volunteering is an excellent way to improve your opportunities and skills for work; if you are currently in receipt of benefits it’s always a good idea to talk to your adviser at the DWP about volunteering.
Will I get training for the role
Yes, training and support is given throughout your volunteering with us.
You make a living by what you get. You make a life by what you give.
