5ways 5months

Sign up to our 5ways 5months challenge, building resilience by focusing on a different part of the Five Ways to Wellbeing each month.

As we say goodbye to 2020 and look forward to the coming year, the team at Mind in West Essex are inviting you to join us on our 5ways 5months challenge.

The Five Ways to Wellbeing is an approach that has been researched and developed by the New Economics Foundation. Engaging with each of the 5 themes can help you feel more positive and able to get the most out of life.

We will focus on a different aspect of the 5 Ways to Wellbeing each month as follows : 

  • Be Active – January
  • Connect – February
  • Give – March
  • Take Notice – April
  • Learn – May

Be Active - January

Being active doesn’t mean running a Marathon, each day challenge yourself to do something you wouldn’t normally. Move up and down the stairs, potter round the garden, take a safe walk round the street.

Connect - February

Connecting has been hard this year, sign up to Side by Side, call an old friend, write and post a letter. Every day connect a little, even if it’s waving to a neighbour.

Give - March

Giving can be anything from your time, sign up to be an Essex Befriends befriender, give a smile or compliment to someone you see, give yourself permission to feel what you feel.

Take Notice - April

Spring is upon us, what have you noticed, something new each day, record it in your calendar. How are you feeling? Take notice of all that is around you.

Learn - May

Each day put a note in a jar of something new that you have learnt in that day. Read a book, be curious with an old friend, stranger on the bus, find a new recipe. 

Celebration - June

Time to come together and celebrate what we have achieved, our hope is we’ll be able to gather face to face but if not we will connect online to hear your stories, reflect on what we have achieved…and of course hand out prizes and certificates!

By each of us taking part in 5ways 5months, we can get the year off to a great start and build up resilience together for whatever 2021 may throw at us .

To make it more fun and to help us stay motivated we have made a downloadable calendar for you to add your challenges/progress and plans to. We have also got some free group activities e.g yoga classes planned so keep an eye out for these on our website and social media!

If you’re struggling for inspiration, the newsletter will also have lots of suggested activities to try each month and links to free resources. You can follow our progress on social media, including through our dedicated Facebook page.
