About CPD

Previously called the Ethical Framework for Counselling and Psychotherapy, the new ‘Ethical Framework for the Counselling Profession’ (written by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) endeavours to provide up to date guidance and sets of principles to ensure safe and ethical practice. In this, they outline the necessary requirements for all registered members, within which Continuing Professional Development is included. (If you would like to read the new framework, please follow this link: https://www.bacp.co.uk/media/3103/bacp-ethical-framework-for-the-counselling-professions-2018.pdf)

According to the BACP, CPD constitutes "Any learning experience that can be used for the systematic maintenance, improvement and broadening of competence, knowledge and skills to ensure that the practitioner has the capacity to practise safely, effectively and legally within their evolving scope of practice. It may include both personal and professional development." (https://www.bacp.co.uk/membership/registered-membership/guide-to-cpd/)
