Complementary Therapies

What are they?

  • A complementary therapy is one that can be used in addition to, or instead of, conventional western medicine.

Complementary approaches share a belief in the body's ability to heal itself. Some of them use an understanding of the working of the body which is not studied by practitioners of conventional medicine, based on Eastern understandings of energy meridians and fields.

Usually such treatments are tailored to the individual, and do not use a 'one size fits all' approach. This means that they are rarely tested by conventional randomised controlled trials, and therefore are not regarded as 'evidence-based', and so few of them are recommended by the National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE) or available on the NHS.

However, many people choose to use them and find them helpful. Most treatments are non-invasive and they rarely cause the unpleasant or long-lasting side effects that can be associated with medication. The practitioner commits more time to the client than a GP is usually able to do.

Complementary therapy is a preventative way to looking after your health

Stress, anxiety, and fatigue – all these factors lead to a compromised immune system allowing easy access for infection to take hold.

The holistic approach, used in complementary therapies, seeks to listen to the body’s signals and work with its own natural vital healing force, helping to bring back balance and harmony. Nourishing, cleansing and energising your body’s systems using a positive approach to maintaining your health.

We are able to offer the following complementary therapies:-

Reflexology

Reflexology is a form of natural, holistic therapy. There are points on the feet and hands which directly correspond to organs, systems and structures within the entire body.

Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is a holistic treatment which produces a physical, spiritual and emotional sense of wellbeing through inhalation and massage of essential oils.

Reiki

If our supply of life force energy is very low and depleted, we suffer from physical, emotional and mental exhaustion. This can cause us to be irritable, bad-tempered or depressed.

What to expect when receiving a Reiki treatment

No need to remove clothes just your shoes. Reiki is non invasive and the treatment is given in a warm safe environment. The therapist will place their hands in significant places on or above the body

How Reiki works

Reiki stimulates the body’s own healing systems.  We all have life force energy running through our physical body, it also flows around us in our energy field.

This energy nourishes the cells and organs of our body.  When depleted it diminishes the function of our system.

The energy force is responsive to our thoughts and feelings. If we are constantly feeling negative about the way we look or the things we do or about what other people may think of us, it can disrupt and diminish the flow of our positive life force energy. Making us feel tired, lethargic and generally ‘down in the dumps’.

Having a reiki treatment can charge this negativity with positive energy – raising the vibration level of your energy field – which in turn clears and strengthens energy and reinforces it’s flow.
